Small town energy. Right in the middle of everything.

Living in harriston, Ontario

ReNew Real Estate Team office in downtown Drayton Ontario 83 Wellington St South

WHY WE LOVE HARRISTON, ONTARIO

The Old Post building - Home to Mays Cafe, Post Script Event Space, Escape The Old Post and more

Small town living, right in our own backyard.

Harriston has a little more going on than you might expect from a small Ontario town.

There's an active downtown filled with independent businesses, plenty of places to grab a bite, community events that bring people together, recreation close to home and new residential growth adding another chapter to the community.

It's also incredibly well positioned. Harriston feels central to so many of the communities, workplaces and destinations throughout northern Wellington County and the surrounding area.

It's small-town living without feeling tucked away.

Welcome to Harriston, another community we're proud to have in Our Own Backyard.

Why We Love Harriston

Harriston has a way of keeping things interesting.

There's a real community spirit here, and throughout the year there always seems to be something happening. The Harriston Street Party and Car Show is one of our favourites, bringing people downtown for a day that feels exactly like a great small town event should.

But that community energy isn't limited to one weekend. Local organizations and volunteers keep the calendar filled with events, activities and reasons to get together. Harriston Rising, for example, is a volunteer led initiative focused on supporting local businesses, beautifying downtown and creating community events.

We also love the downtown. Instead of a landscape dominated by big-box stores, you'll find independent shops, restaurants, services and businesses run by people who are invested in the community.

And Harriston is surprisingly convenient. There are plenty of choices when you want to grab a bite, meet someone for coffee or head out for the evening, while neighbouring communities and larger centres are easily accessible.

Add in recreation, community events, nearby healthcare and new housing options, and Harriston offers a pretty compelling version of small town living.

It's small enough to feel connected, but active enough that it doesn't feel sleepy.

Michael's Take

“What I like about Harriston is that it feels like you're right in the middle of everything. It's easy to get to so many other communities, but there's also plenty happening right here.
The Street Party and Car Show is always a great event, there are lots of places to grab a bite, and I really like that the downtown still has so many independent, mom-and-pop businesses.
And with new neighbourhoods like Maitland Meadows, we're seeing more opportunities for people to buy a brand new home and become part of the community.
Harriston has that small town feel, but it doesn't feel like you're far away from everything.”

Homes & Real Estate in Harriston, Ontario

Harriston offers an interesting mix of housing for buyers at different stages of life.

The established parts of town include older character homes, traditional family houses, bungalows and properties on mature streets, while newer development is adding townhomes, semi-detached homes and detached new construction to the mix.

For buyers coming from larger urban centres, Harriston can offer an opportunity to get more home for their budget while still having everyday services, recreation and local businesses nearby.

The surrounding countryside also opens up opportunities for buyers looking beyond town for rural homes, farms and properties with a little more space.

Whether you're buying your first home, moving your family, right-sizing or considering something brand new, Harriston offers more housing choices than its size might suggest.

New Construction in Harriston

One of the biggest changes happening in Harriston is the addition of new housing through Maitland Meadows.

This growing neighbourhood offers buyers the opportunity to purchase a brand-new home while still enjoying the benefits of an established small town.

With a variety of home styles and floor plans, Maitland Meadows creates options for first-time buyers, families, right sizers and anyone who likes the idea of moving into something new without giving up the community feel that makes Harriston special.

The ReNew Real Estate Team works closely with new construction buyers and understands that purchasing from a builder is different from buying a resale home. From choosing the right floor plan and lot to understanding finishes, deposits, timelines and the purchase process, we're here to help buyers navigate the details.

And when the house is finished, you're not moving into the middle of nowhere.

You're moving into Harriston.

Raising A Family In Harriston

Harriston offers families the kind of everyday convenience that can make small town living work.

There's recreation right in the community, including the Harriston arena and curling facilities, along with parks, programs and seasonal activities. The Town of Minto also operates summer day camps and PA Day programming from the Harriston Arena.

Community events give families plenty of reasons to get out and participate, while the downtown puts local shops, food and services close to home.

Healthcare is also nearby. Palmerston & District Hospital is just a short drive from Harriston, giving residents convenient access to hospital services without travelling to a major city.

And like so many of the communities in Our Own Backyard, some of Harriston's biggest advantages aren't necessarily things you'll find on a map.

It's seeing familiar faces downtown. Kids growing up around community events. Local businesses supporting local teams and organizations. And neighbours who actually know one another.

Things To Do

Harriston punches above its weight when it comes to community events.

The Harriston Street Party brings the downtown to life and is one of the community's signature events. Harriston Rising also supports other initiatives throughout the year, with volunteers working on events, downtown beautification and projects designed to keep the core vibrant.

Arts, culture and history have a place here too. Harriston has a local historical society, library and gallery space, and the Town of Minto currently includes Harriston in its cultural programming and self guided historical walking tours.

Then there are the everyday activities: hockey, curling, community programs, grabbing an ice cream, meeting friends downtown or heading out for dinner.

For a small town, the calendar can get surprisingly busy.

Local Food, Shopping & Everyday Life

One of Harriston's best features is its downtown.

Independent shops and locally owned businesses still line the core, giving you places to shop, eat and explore without everything feeling like it came from the same shopping plaza.

For coffee or lunch, there's May's Café at the Old Post, located inside Harriston's beautifully repurposed Old Post building. For a sit down meal, there's Harry Stone's Social House, while Homestyle Bites and Catering offers another locally owned option. The Town of Minto's current dining directory also lists pizza, coffee and seasonal food options throughout Harriston.

And shopping local here can mean everything from toys and flowers to gifts, clothing, food and everyday necessities. The Town's current business directory includes businesses such as Kidding Around, Elora St. Flowers, Skylynn Boutique, Scoop-It Bulk & Frozen Foods and more.

From Our Own Backyard

One of the best things about Harriston's downtown is that so many of the businesses still have a name, a face and a local person behind them.

Small Town, Well Connected

One of Harriston's underrated advantages is just how central it feels.

Living here puts you within easy reach of neighbouring communities throughout Minto, Wellington County and the surrounding region, making it practical to live in a smaller community while working, shopping or spending time elsewhere.

And because Harriston itself has restaurants, shops, recreation and everyday services, you don't necessarily have to leave town for everything either.

It's a balance we hear people looking for all the time:

A quieter place to come home to, without feeling disconnected from everything around you.

Thinking About Moving to Harriston?

Whether you're looking for an established home, considering new construction in Maitland Meadows, moving your family or thinking about selling a Harriston property you already own, we'd be happy to help.

Our team understands both the established Harriston real estate market and the new growth happening in the community.

But we also know the part that doesn't show up on an MLS listing.

The downtown. The events. The businesses. The people. And the feeling of living somewhere that's small enough to know, but connected enough to make everyday life work.

Because Harriston isn't simply another place we sell homes.

It's part of Our Own Backyard.
